This book follows Muhammad Hussain Khan “Keeru,” who escapes Pakistan, after being hounded for his caste and almost beaten to death on false charges of blasphemy. Told from the perspectives of five characters, Keeru tells queer and feminist stories as it overturns familiar tropes about love, belonging, migration and family.

This book looks at the history of the Dravidian movement through the twentieth century and the growth of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as a political force. Combining interviews and analysis, it explores Periyar’s thought; reading rooms and Tamil journalism; how the DMK responded to critical historical events; the 1967 election in the Virudhunagar Assembly constituency; and what followed the DMK’s shift into party politics.
