More than 60 people are reported to have died in Firozabad district in the dengue outbreak in August and September 2021. Firozabad has been the worst affected district but several cases and deaths have been reported from Agra, Mathura, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow and Sitapur.
“My children got dengue. So, I took them to the hospital. The district magistrate was here. He sent an ambulance. Many people came along to help get my children admitted. At the hospital, no one took note of us or admitted them. I returned home and then went to a private hospital,” one of the residents of the village said. “I took loan from the village to get my children treated [at the private hospital]. That was the only way I could save them. I am still worried. The entire village is in distress.”
